| Acrylic | A type of paint which has gained increasing popularity in model work over the last 20 years. Cleans up and thins with water or alcohol, and is often referred to as water-based, although it is chemically a polymerizing resin. |
| AFV | Armored Fighting Vehicle, that is a tank, armored car, self-propelled gun, etc. |
| AFV-G2 | Magazine for armor enthusiasts and modelers, published by James G. Steuard, Baron Publishing, late 1970s to early 1980s. |
| Airbrush | A miniature spray painting gun, often used in model work for general and detail painting. |
| Armored Car | Armed and armored military vehicle running on a wheeled suspension. |

| Halftrack | Military vehicle with wheels at the front and caterpillar tracks at the rear. Not all halftracks are armed or armored. |
| Personnel Carrier | Military vehicle for transporting infantry and their field equipment and weapons, usually close to the front lines. May be wheeled, halftrack, full track, or even air-cushion types. |
| Photo Etch | Parts made by exposing a photo sensitive emulsion on a metal plate through a negative, and etching away the unwanted portions with a caustic solution, leaving behind sharply detailed flat or low relief parts. |
| Portee | Anti-Tank gun, or other artillery piece, mounted on the bed of a softskin truck rather than towed for transport. Generally refers to British World War II equipment. |
| Primer | Base coat of paint which helps smooth surface flaws and improves adhesion of successive color coats. |
| Resin | 2-Part, cold setting plastic often used for manufacturing aftermarket and do-it-yourself parts. Bonds to itself and other materials with cyanoacrylate and epoxy glues. |
| RTV | Room Temperature Vulcanizing. A type of rubber often used to make molds for Do-It-Yourself projects in modeling, such as resin parts. |
| Softskin Vehicle | Unarmored military vehicle, such as a jeep or cargo truck. |
| Sprue | The molded framework on which the plastic parts are held until they are needed for assembly. |
| Stretched Sprue | Thin strands of plastic made by heating and pulling Sprue. usually over a candle flame. |
| Styrene | The type of thermoplastic from which most commercially available model kits are molded. |
| Super Glue | Cyanoacrylate bonding agent, available in regular (thin) and gel types. In modeling, it is usually used to bond dissimilar materials. Tends to fog clear styrene. |
| Tack Cloth | A clean, lint free cloth or paper towel, damp with alcohol or other solvent or otherwise chemically treated, wiped over a model immediately prior to painting, to remove any residue of sanding dust or fingerprints. |
| Tank | Armed and armored military vehicle, usually but not always with armament in one or more rotating turrets, running on a fully tracked suspension. |

| White Glue | Water soluble bonding agent, such as Elmers, often used for attaching clear plastic parts, because it does not mar or fog clear styrene. |
